Hope Urdang will major in psychology and minor in sports coaching. Hope wants to be a sports psychologist; it's something that a lot of people didn’t know existed.
“I chose this major because I felt like God was really calling me to do it. I have felt called to be a counselor or psychologist for a long time, but it’s overwhelming how many different jobs there are within the psychological field. It wasn’t until this year that something really clicked where I was like ‘wait, there has to be counselors for sports too’ but it is something that isn’t really talked about as it is an up and coming field.”
If you know Hope, you know that she loves theater, so this might actually shock you. “Something that a lot of people find hard to believe is that I am not going to school for theater. The other school that I do theater at, Saint Joseph’s Regional High School, usually has students who leave to pursue theater either in college or on some sort of a professional level. I feel like the people that know me there and people at EC were surprised because theater is something that I take really seriously and I always try to be on top of what I have to do for a show. Even though in college I don’t plan on being as active with theater as I have been, I definitely plan on doing it again. While they see it as me giving it up, I see it as moving it over to make room for something else that I can also do.
One thing that high school has taught Hope is: “Something that high school has taught me that has to do with my faith is that if your plan aligns with God’s plan then you are destined for success. There are times in the past where I think that I know what God wants for me versus what God wants for me and I spend time pursuing the wrong thing for so long that I get burnt out. I feel like people tend to overlook what God wants for them because they think that they know better, but at the end of the day, they are not in control of every little thing. If you trust that God will put you in the right spot or that God is leading you to the right place then nothing will hinder your path.”
